Department Oratorical Contest Winners

The Georgia State Oratorical Contest was held on March 3, 2007 in Perry, Georgia at 1:00 PM with four contestants representing the four areas of the Department of Georgia. James Earnhardt, Department Oratorical Chairman, ran the contest. Checks were presented to the winners by Detachment Commander Don Godell and Department Jr. Vice Commander Jeannette Shaw. First Place winner, Ashley Butman sponsored by Post #307 - Cumming with S.A.L. Detachment Commander Don Goddell and Junior Vice Commander of the American Legion, Jeanette Shaw. Ashley will go to Indianapolis to represent State of Georgia in the Southern Regional and then hopefully the National Oratorical Contest.

The National winner will receive $18,000 in scholarship assistance from the National American Legion Program.
